When Axiom Walks Into a Library: Reimagining the Futures of Learning Ecosystems through Play

This session explores how play is reshaping adult learning at the ecosystem level, not just inside workshops. Drawing on her work as a consultant and programme partner supporting Singapore’s National Library Board, Carol Lim shares real-world examples of how public learning spaces are evolving into vibrant, playful environments that cultivate curiosity, connection, and lifelong learning in an AI-accelerated world. These examples include game-based leadership workshops, community-centered play activations, and the design of large-scale learning festivals for working professionals.

Blending practical design principles with a futures lens, participants examine how play influences identity, experience, and culture across learning systems. Using the Playful Futures Triad—Reimagine Identity, Redesign Experience, Rebuild Culture—participants learn how to apply play-based strategies to rethink their own learning environments, whether physical or virtual, and how these choices can shift engagement, collaboration, and culture over time.

Takeaway: In an AI-shaped future, play is not decoration. It is infrastructure for learning, connection, and belonging.
