Build It: From Concept to Playable Prototype

You've defined your learner, created your story, and designed the experience. Now it's time to build something people will actually want to play. 

As a GamiCon ATX participant, you'll discover why effective game-based learning is about far more than points, badges, and competition. During this hands-on build sprint, Robert will help you identify the mechanics that create curiosity, encourage meaningful decisions, provide timely feedback, and motivate learners to continue exploring.

Working alongside AI, you'll brainstorm game mechanics, refine learner interactions, strengthen feedback loops, prototype game elements, and simplify design decisions. Guided design challenges will encourage you to rethink learner choices, introduce meaningful consequences, and ensure every mechanic supports your learning objectives rather than distracting from them.

This is where your project begins to feel real. You'll continue building your Make It Real Blueprint as you create the first playable version of your learning experience.

By the end of this session, you'll have completed the Build It section of your Make It Real Blueprint and leave Day One with a playable prototype ready to test, refine, and strengthen during Day Two.

What You'll Build

You'll move beyond planning and begin assembling a working prototype that demonstrates how your learning experience functions. AI helps you rapidly explore mechanics, interactions, feedback, and learner choices while keeping your focus on meaningful learning outcomes.

  • Create feedback and consequences. 
  • Prototype your learning experience. 
  • Prepare your project for playtesting. 
  • Complete the Build It section of your Make It Real Blueprint.
