Day 2 - A Shared Language for Learning Design

game mechanics gamification instructional design Dec 21, 2025

In the song, the two turtle doves represent connection and partnership. They move together. They signal alignment. They’re a pair.

That makes them the perfect metaphor for today’s gift.

Today’s giveaway is a set of Game Mechanics Cards created by Bernardo Letayf, Level 3 Certified Gamification Master Craftsman and creator of the BLUERABBIT platform.

In gamified learning, mechanics only work when two things move in syncthe intent of the designer and the experience of the learner.

These cards help bring those two into alignment.

Each card names a specific game mechanic and describes how it functions in an experience, turning abstract concepts into shared design language. Mechanics like Storyline, Epic Meaning, Choice, Cooperation, Progression, and Feedback become tangible tools teams can point to, discuss, and intentionally apply.

Use these cards to:

  • align designers, facilitators, and stakeholders around the same language
  • pair learning goals with meaningful learner experiences
  • explore how mechanics work together rather than in isolation
  • design experiences where motivation and structure move together

This is where the Two Turtle Doves metaphor comes to life. One dove represents what you’re trying to accomplish. The other represents how the learner experiences it. When those two stay connected, learning becomes clearer, stronger, and more engaging.

Download the cards, spread them out, and let alignment guide your next design.
