Day 5 - Five Golden Rings Interactive Search Experience

gamification instructional design learning and development Dec 24, 2025

What We Search for Reveals What We Value

In The Twelve Days of Christmas, the five golden rings are often interpreted as symbols of value. Not decoration. Not noise. The things worth seeking out.

That idea sits at the heart of today’s gift.

Day 5 of our 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways features an interactive game created by Dr. Julia Allen. In this experience, players move through a series of rooms, actively searching for five golden rings hidden throughout the environment.

The narrative is intentionally simple. The learning is not.

This game invites players to slow down, explore, and notice. Nothing flashes. Nothing shouts for attention. You have to look. You have to choose where to spend your time. And you have to decide what matters enough to keep searching.

That’s Gamification Master Craftsman thinking.

At this level, we’re no longer designing for completion. We’re designing for discernment. For focus. For meaning. For the ability to recognize what’s valuable amid distraction.

The act of searching becomes the lesson.

In learning design, we often overwhelm people with content and options, assuming more equals better. This experience challenges that assumption. It reminds us that when everything is highlighted, nothing stands out.

The Five Golden Rings come to life here as intentional discovery. What learners find depends on how they explore. What they miss depends on what they rush past.

This game is a powerful reminder that learning isn’t always about adding more. Sometimes it’s about helping people recognize what’s already there.
